Oversized Animals

I’ve been thinking about starting a new photography project recently incorporating the use of oversized animals or insects, maybe even plants. I’ve given it a go with a photo of my back garden and a huge pigeon on the rooftop over yonder. I think I can do a lot better though. Here’s my first attempt (click photo to view full size).

British Heart Foundation

We’ve recently had a BHF shop open up near my uni. It has great bargains and a really creepy heart that runs around outside hugging EVERYONE. The most ironic thing about it though… is it’s located right next to McDonalds. Nice.

Anyway, an ambitious volunteer called Clare has teamed up with artists who have voluntarily produced heart themed pieces with the intention of auctioning them off in an attempt to raise £100,000 towards the British Heart Foundation. They’re calling it “Mending Broken Hearts” and they’ve already got an amazing set or artists such as Sir Peter Blake, Brendan Neiland, Gavin Turk, Antony Micallef, Gary Hume, Jonathan Yeo, Maggi Hambling and Marc Quinn.

Olympus Case – DIY Style

I’ve been thinking for ages about getting a case for my camera, but I really didn’t want a bulky zip up case as I tend to leave it in there and if there’s a quick shot I could have taken it would have been missed by the time I take the camera out of the case.

I decided to go for a wrapping cloth, which is literally just a square piece of cloth with an elastic circle on one corner so you can fold your camera up in it and hold it together with the elastic band. I looked around for one but they are very hard to come by and they are quite expensive for what they are… so to cut my losses I decided to make one myself. I thought I’d buy some fabric, sew the edges to make them nice and attach a circle of elastic.

I didn’t do this. What I did do was go to the fabric shop, but two 70p sheets of rectangular felt, went home, borrowed my girlfriends sewing machine and sewed the most awesome case to house the camera – then to finish it I used some iron on velcro to secure it and now I have an extremely lightweight, non abrasive, protective force field for the camera which I’ve made so the neck strap can come out of the sides to easily carry it around my neck or do whatever with it that would need the neck strap out… like spinning it above my head or something.

Here’s a quick GIF I made to show it off (image quality is poor because I can’t yet seem to take a picture of a camera with the camera that’s having it’s picture taken, so I used my iPhone in a poorly lit room).

Daniel Josefsohn Helmut Wallpaper

I came across Daniel Josefsohn’s photography of naked women wearing Storm Trooper helmets which he’s also put onto skate decks and thought you should know… [check more of his work here on The Saatchi Gallery].

I thought this image was so awesome I decided to turn this tiny picture (the largest I could find) into a full sized wallpaper for my Mac. I’m feeling generous so I’m going to share the love and if you want to download it just click on the image below for the full sized wallpaper.

A man in a bear skin thong

It’s super hot today and I’m quite resentfully sitting here in the sun in a pair of shorts… So I put this to you;

If I, a man, went into the forest with nothing but a hunters knife for 4 days, tracked down a big ass, flesh hungry, grizzly bear and killed it with my bare hands then proceeded to shave it, skin it and forge the most comfortable man thong you could ever possibly imagine out of it’s skin and wore it, this day, in the sun… Would it still be really, really camp?
